Air Pollution & Burning Season - Magnesium Chloride Is Important

High levels of air pollution happen for different reasons, from local agricultural "burning seasons” all over the world to high density urban living, industrial waste discharge, riding motorcycles or bicycles in heavy traffic and atmospheric weather phenomena which trap contaminated air.  Whatever the cause, the responses are important:

  • Limit your exposure to polluted air (ie stay inside with closed windows and air purifiers)
  • Increase your intake of pure water, to assist your body’s natural detox & elimination processes
  • Increase your magnesium inputs, in particular transdermal magnesium chloride

Why magnesium?  And why magnesium chloride in particular?

The compound Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2) is one of the most bio-available forms of magnesium and clinical studies show it is readily absorbed through the skin.

“Intracellular levels of magnesium, measured at Intracellular Diagnostics, and serum levels of DHEA-S increase significantly after application of magnesium chloride transdermally.  This result is far superior to our earlier attempts to raise magnesium levels with oral magnesium” Clinical data

It is required for the production of digestive acids, which are needed to keep the digestive elimination processes strong.  Regular use of antacids further lowers the body’s magnesium levels. Magnesium is also needed for excellent kidney function.  Both the liver and kidneys are the primary filters in the body for ingested wastes and pollutants and yes, when the air is bad we have a much greater need for magnesium, both for detoxification and for cellular repair.

Recent studies show drastically reduced magnesium levels in commercially raised crops (our food supply!) and as much as two thirds of the population in developed countries consumes less than the daily recommended intake of magnesium. Clinical abstract

“Low magnesium intakes and blood levels have been associated with type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, elevated C-reactive protein, hypertension, atherosclerotic vascular disease, sudden cardiac death, osteoporosis, migraine headache, asthma, and colon cancer.“ Clinical study

Simply using a Magnesium Chloride Spray in particular, is a smart daily response to air pollution.  It is safe for even small children and easy to apply to the soles of the feet before sleep.  Why the feet?  The soles of the feet carry the highest number of the largest pores and do not produce sebum, the natural oil produced by our skin which does interfere with magnesium absorption.  Magnesium bath soaks with Epsom salts (Magnesium Sulfate MgSO4) are relaxing and highly recommended for pain relief and sore muscles, but have a much lower detoxing effect in the body.  As shown by the clinical study quoted above, oral magnesium supplements are less effective due to lower absorption levels.

Our gentle & natural suggestion?  Simply spray your feet before sleep with Magnesium Oil and massage in with a moisturizing Foot Repair Balm.  The magnesium will also help with sleep quality and muscle relaxation, but mostly you’ll sleep better knowing your body is better able to eliminate harmful toxins breathed in from dirty air.

Simple, natural choices - everyday - for better health.
