Kaffir Lime - Fragrant & Healing

Kaffir lime essential oil is derived from the leaves of the kaffir lime plant, which is commonly found in Southeast Asia. Kaffir lime is also known by several other names, including Makrut lime, Thai lime, and Mauritius papeda. It is not clear why the term "Kaffir" came to be associated with the lime, but some suggest that it may have originated from the Arabic word "kafir," which means "unbeliever" or "infidel," and was used by some Muslims to refer to non-Muslims in Africa. Others suggest that it may have been derived from the South African term "kaffir," which was used as a derogatory term for black Africans during apartheid.

Here in Thailand we simply call it by it's local name, Makrut.

It has been used for centuries in Thai cooking, and who doesn't love a fragrant Thai Green Curry?  But it's also been used in traditional medicine for its numerous health benefits. When used topically, kaffir lime essential oil has several wonderful health benefits.
